Supported configurations

The device needs to come with the following features:

  • Android 5.1
  • Root access for apps (SuperSU)
  • Built-in Wi-Fi adapter

Prerequisites

You'll need a keyboard or a mouse to control the player during the installation process. Plug it in to one of the bottom USB ports on the player.

You'll also need a FAT32 formatted USB stick with the SignageLAB Core App APK file. You can download the latest Core App APK for Giada here (opens in a new tab).

Installation steps

  1. Connect keyboard or mouse
  2. Connect to the internet (cable/wifi)
  3. Insert your USB stick to the top left USB port on the player. The rest of this guide assumes the USB stick is inserted in this port.
  4. Open the Settings app

  1. Open Security settings under the Personal section.

  1. Make sure the Unknown sources option is enabled. This requires confirmation.

  1. Open the app launcher image
  • Open the ApkInstaller app. image

  • Press the big blue Install button.

  • On the left side, navigate to USB Memory, USB_DISK2, udisk0.

  • Select the APK on the right side. image

  • Press the INSTALL button. image

  1. Once the installation finishes, press the OPEN button.
  2. Short verification hash is displayed on the screen
  3. Reboot the player

Setup superuser privileges

If you are asked to grand the superuser privileges for the app follow these instructions:

  1. Press the GRANT button to grant superuser privileges to signageOS app.

  1. While in signageOS Core App, press F1 key (or middle mouse button) then open SuperSU app from the menu.

  1. Press Start.
  2. Press CANCEL when prompted to update SU binary. Confirm by pressing the OK button.
  3. Press NO THANKS when prompted to "Follow me".
  4. While on APPS tab, select signageOS on the left side and make sure the following is set on the right side:
    1. Access: Grant
    2. Confirm any changes by pressing the ✓ (check mark) button. image
  5. Go to SETTINGS tab and make sure the following is set:
    1. Enable superuser ☑ (enabled)
    2. Re-authentication ☐ (disabled)
    3. Default access [ Deny ]
    4. Show notifications ☐ (disabled) image
